| Paul C. Douglas Teacher Scholarships | This program made grants to states to award scholarships for up to four years to outstanding secondary school graduates and recent GED recipients who demonstrated an interest in teaching. The grants helped enable and encourage those individuals to pursue a course of study leading to certification as a teacher at the preschool, elementary, or secondary level. Scholarship recipients who teach in a federally-approved teacher shortage area are required to teach only one year for each year of scholarship assistance received.
