 Basic Information

Informing stakeholders about the latest advancements in risk management approaches and decision options is vital to the success of EPA’s research programs. The National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) conveys this information through technology transfer publications, peer-reviewed journal articles, software tools, brochures, and technical workshops.

The purpose of NRMRL’s technology transfer efforts is to:

  • Communicate information about EPA advancements in risk management, pollution prevention, wastewater treatment, Brownfield monitoring, contaminant controls, etc.
  • Provide expert advice and assistance to environmental managers at all levels of government
  • Produce technology transfer publications, software, multimedia products, and conduct technical meetings to inform the regulated community, environmental consultants, and local decision makers on environmental issues

Recent publications include manuals on:

  • Land remediation of sludge
  • Pollution prevention
  • Water reuse
  • On-site wastewater treatment systems
  • Brownfields
  • Community-level environmental monitoring
  • Contaminants such as mercury and arsenic

NRMRL employs state-of-the-science pilot plants to develop and refine risk management techniques to reduce air, water, and land pollution.
