Now Hiring – In the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) you will work on a variety of projects that support EPA’s mission of protecting human health and the environment. Through the Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP), OPPT seeks to recruit exceptional men and women who will work in new, creative ways that are cleaner for the environment, cheaper for business and taxpayers, and smarter for America’s future. FCIP is a two-year internship program focused on training and career development, including benefits, and leading to permanent employment upon successful completion of the program. OPPT is recruiting interns for the FCIP starting at the GS-9 level, with a salary of $48,108 - $62,546.

What Are the Jobs?

OPPT staff members, including a large number of scientists, work together serving our regulatory and voluntary programs, which assess the potential for hazards to human health and the environment from exposure to chemicals, as provided under the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Pollution Prevention Act. The intern will review, research, and analyze data related to the manufacturer, processing, and use of chemicals and biological agents. The intern will serve on multi-disciplinary teams that incorporate hazard and risks findings with the benefits and costs of actions being considered to inform Agency and private sector decision-makers or stakeholders. The intern will also provide support for priority setting, strategic planning, and the measurement of environmental results. Here is a sample of the jobs which may be available:

Who Is Eligible?

GS-9 candidates must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree, or LL.B or J.D. degree, if related, or at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Candidates must be U. S. citizens. The following documentation is required: resume, college transcripts or list of courses taken and completed, and Veteran’s Preference documents.
