Research Project: Haplotype Structure of the Bovine Prion Gene Complex and Association with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (Bse)

Location: Animal Health Systems Research

Project Number: 5438-32000-029-04
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 29, 2006
End Date: Jun 30, 2009

Objective:
Associate prion gene complex haplotypes with susceptibility to BSE.

Approach:
The project will take a population-based approach employing principles of genetic epidemiology. We will utilize comprehensive knowledge of genetic variation in the prion gene region to analyze BSE case-control sets for association with specific alleles. We hypothesize that alleles of the bovine prion gene complex are associated with increased susceptibility to BSE.
