Research Project: Cocoa Productivity and Quality Improvement, a Participatory Approach Project Number: 0500-00008-001-32
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Objective:
Overall project objective is towards more efficient and sustainable cocoa production through the distribution, evaluation, validation and utilization of improved varieties exhibiting enhanced yield, quality and disease resistance traits.

Approach:
Distribution to farmers of improved cocoa plant materials for evaluation and validation; Dissemination of improved materials through partners in an enhanced international system once cocoa plant material passes through quarantine; Collect data over a 5-year period which will establish the stability of desired quality and resistance traits and validate early resistance screening data; Disseminate results of trials through a variety of media; and Conduct coordinating meetings involving research of national and international research and development institutions.
