OSHA is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Voluntary Protection Programs. What started 20 years ago as a novel concept - establishing a program that encourages companies to go above and beyond their legal obligations to protect their workers' safety and health - has evolved into a glowing success story about management-labor-government corporation. Read our cover story about the hundreds of federal and state VPP sites that have committed to making their workplaces the safest in the world and the unexpected payoffs they are realizing.

This issue of JSHQ covers a broad range of workplace safety and heath issues. Learn about OSHA'S efforts to reach out to Hispanic Employers from the Dallas and Fort Lauderdale Area Offices. Read about the latest initiatives on the ergonomics front and how OSHA is working with the stakeholders in several key industries to develop guidelines to protect workers from ergonomic-related injuries and illnesses. And don't miss our new department, "Small Business Update," that focuses on the special needs of small businesses and services OSHA offers to help.

The publication of this issue is bittersweet for those of us at JSHQ who bid farewell to Anne Cyr, the magazine's founder and greatest advocate. Anne will be sorely missed as Executive Editor, but her influence remains ingrained on the pages of JSHQ. We thank her for her dedication, her hard work, and most of all, her inspiration in developing JSHQ and wish her a long, happy, and prosperous future pursuing her love of the arts.
