Useful Resources

Additional resources concerning funding from the U.S. Department of Education are also found in ED Funding Opportunities web site. The following are some useful handbooks and guidelines for applying grants and contracts from OERI and other parts of the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Grants and Contracts Information -- provides additional information including currently available contract solicitations, a forecast of upcoming contract opportunities, grants policy bulletins, and databases of contract and grant awards
  • What Should I Know About ED Grants -- offers a non-technical summary of ED's discretionary grants process (application, review, award, administration, grant closeout, and audit) and the laws and regulations that govern the process.
  • Guide to ED Programs -- provides a concise description of each of the 200+ programs that ED administers, identifies who may apply, and gives the name and telephone number of the ED office to contact for more information.
  • Doing Business with the U.S. Department of Education -- This guide provides general information about the contracting process at the Department of Education and would be of special interest to prospective contractors new to the Department. Each Principal Operating Component within ED has staff who are Government Purchase Card (Credit Card) holders. These staff have the authority to make micro-purchases, acquisitions of supplies or services the aggregate amount of which does not exceed $2,500.00.
  • Protection of Human Subjects in Research -- Except as provided in Title 34 of CFR, Part 97.101(b), all research involving human subjects conducted or supported by federal agencies are subject to a set of regulations known as the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects. Each institution engaged in research which is covered by this policy and which is conducted or supported by the U.S. Department of Education shall provide written assurance satisfactory to the Department that it will comply with the requirements set forth in this policy. This web site provides general information, regulations, guidance, and educational materials concerning the federal policy for the protection of human subjects in research.
