Join BLM Recreation, its organization partners, and thousands of spirited volunteers united to complete projects to improve public lands and waterways.  Follow the links below to learn more about major special events co-sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management.

Annual Events

National Public Lands Day – The nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy.

National River Cleanup Week – The most popular and successful nationwide stream cleanup program. Over the past 15 years, these cleanups have removed over 1,000 tons of litter and debris from America's rivers and streams. This annual event traditionally occurs the second or third week of May.

National Trails Day – Find an event in your area to discover and celebrate trails while participating in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops, and trail work projects.

National Fishing and Boating Week - This event introduces young people to fishing and boating and encourages aquatic stewardship. BLM has been a participant in this event for more than 25 years. In 2007, more than 5,000 students and their families participated in 22 events hosted or sponsored by BLM. To download a report on the 2007 event, select this link (4 MB PDF). The event is held annually in June.

Other Events

BLM Volunteer Events  – The BLM partners with more than 20,000 Americans annually who volunteer nearly 500,000 hours of their time and talent to accomplish land stewardship, enhancement, and other important projects to improve recreation opportunities on BLM-managed lands.

Take Pride in America – A national partnership established by the U.S. Department of the Interior that aims to engage, support and recognize volunteers who work to improve our public parks, forests, grasslands, wildlife refuges, cultural and historical sites, local playgrounds and other recreation areas. Together we protect and enhance the special legacy all Americans share — our public lands that cover more than one in every three acres across the Nation.
