Research Project:
The Influence of Maternal Environment on Fetal Development, and Progeny Birth Weight, Growth and Health
Location: Dubois, Idaho
2006 Annual Report
4d.Progress report.
This report serves to document research conducted under a reimbursable cooperative agreement between ARS and North Dakota State University. Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent project #5364-31000-007-00D, Integrated Systems for Increasing Production Efficiency of Sheep. Data from research conducted during the reporting period are being analyzed for presentation in a series of manuscripts for submission to a refereed journal. During the reporting period, pregnant ewe lambs were subjected to three levels of nutrition and two levels of supplemental organically-bound selenium throughout gestation. Performance and lambing data were collected and summarized. Specific biological samples were collected from the lambs and ewes for subsequent analysis. Data collected during the previous reporting period were analyzed and summarized in a draft manuscript entitled "Effects of selenium supply and dietary restriction on maternal and fetal body weight, visceral organ mass, cellularity estimates, and jejeunal vascularity in pregnant ewe lambs."
