There is no doubt that we live in a microbial
world. Bacteria, archaea, fungi, and
algae participate in all the fundamental
biogeochemical processes that allow life
as we know it to exist. Coral microbial
ecology is just beginning to address the
importance of microbes to the health and
function of coral reefs.
