Manassas National Battlefield Park is located within the Triassic basin of the northern Virginia piedmont. The park is characterized by gently rolling hills with a patchwork of open fields and forests. The Park's landscape is representitive of the Culpeper basin and is one of the region's most unspoiled areas. The animals that can be found here are typical of this region.
Did You Know?
The 5th New York lost 123 men killed at the Battle of Second Manassas. This was the greatest loss of life in any single infantry regiment in any battle of the Civil War. One member of the regiment, James Webb, won the Medal of Honor in the battle by braving fire to save a Union battery from capture.
