NCES 2001168 Credits and Attainment: Returns to Postsecondary Education Ten Years After High School
This report examines 16 student characteristics and their association with earnings 10 years after high school. After controlling for academic and labor force experience and background characteristics, a baccalaureate or associates degree contributed significantly to earnings while some college credits with no degree attainment did not. The findings further suggest that college curriculum and student academic performance as well as early labor force experience figure prominently in the earnings of young adults as well. While the findings reaffirm the importance of education as a vehicle of social mobility, the direct and indirect effects of family and demographic background still constitute dominant factors in the formation of an individual’s earning capacity.

International Education Indicators: A Time Series Perspective, 1985-1995 compares educational trends in economically developed countries over time. The countries examined in this report are members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), an organization of 29 countries dedicated to promoting economic growth and development around the world. This report extends the earlier National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) publication International Education Indicators: A Time Series Perspective from a seven-to an 11-year time series to provide a more comprehensive picture of continuity and change in countries' education systems.

NCES 98261 Data File: Completions in Postsecondary Institutions, 1995-96
This file makes available detailed information on the number of degrees and other awards conferred by all postsecondary education institutions in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the outlying areas. The data can be tabulated by level of degree/award, program category or specialty, gender and race/ethnicty of recipient, and other institutional characteristics, as well as by state and region. Also included are data containing numbers of completers receiving double majors and numbers of awards conferred at branch campuses in foreign countries.

This file contains data reported for the IPEDS Completions Survey for academic year 1994-95. Number of degrees and other awards by institution, field of study, level of award, gender, and race/ethnicity. This is the first year that degrees and other awards by race/ethnicity were collected for each specific field of study. For this reason, the structure of the data file is substantially different from previous years.
