Research Project: The Native Bees of the Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests

Location: Pollinating Insects-- Biology, Management and Systematics Research

2008 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To develop a species list of the bees that pollinate flowering plants on the Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests. Emphasis will be placed on sensitive plants, designated botanical areas and research natural areas.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Supervise collections of bee pollinators; deliver specimens and associated data.

3.Progress Report
The goal of this project is to develop a species list of the bees that pollinate flowering plants on the Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests. No field studies were conducted under this program in FY2008. Analysis proceeds on data from prior collections from the Okanogan Highlands region. Results demonstrate that the Okanogan Highlands are home to a diverse pollinator fauna; 152 species of bees visiting 57 plant species have been documented. ADODR monitoring activities to evaluate research progress included telephone calls and emails with the cooperator.
