Data Users Advisory Committee Charter
The Committee's Official Designation:
Bureau of
Labor Statistics Data Users Advisory Committee (hereinafter called "Committee").
Authority:
This charter established the Committee in accordance
with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), (5 U.S.C., App.),
and its implementing regulations (41 CFR 101-6.10 and 102-3).
Committee's Objectives and the Scope of Activity:
The Committee provides advice to the Bureau of Labor Statistics
from the points of view of data users from various sectors of the U.S.
economy, including the labor, business, research, academic, and government
communities, on technical matters related to the collection, tabulation,
and analysis of the Bureau's statistics, on its published reports, and on the
broader aspects of its overall mission and function.
Period of Time Necessary for the Committee to Carry Out Its
Purposes:
Indefinite, as continuing advisory relationships have
been found advantageous.

The Commissioner of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Labor
Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor.
The Agency Responsible for Providing Financial Support for the
Committee:
The Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor.
Description of the Duties for Which the Committee is
Responsible:
The Committee is responsible for providing the
Commissioner of Labor Statistics:
- the priorities of data users,
- suggestions concerning the addition of new programs, changes in the
emphasis of existing programs or cessation of obsolete programs; and
- advice regarding the efficiency of data collection and reporting. These
duties are wholly advisory in character.
Membership:
The Committee will not exceed 25 members. Membership and participation in
the Committee and any subcommittees may be from, and are intended to be broadly
representative of, the labor, business, research, academic and government
communities in the United States. Membership of the Committee represents a
balance in terms of the points of view represented. Membership will consist
of an equal number of labor and business representatives, the total number of which
is not to exceed 16. Committee members are nominated by the Commissioner of Labor
Statistics and approved by the Secretary of Labor. Committee members will not have
access to information covered by the Confidential Information Protection and Statistical
Efficiency Act. The terms of the appointment to the Committee is for three years and
members may be reappointed to any number of additional terms. The Committee chairperson
will be selected by the Commissioner of Labor Statistics and will serve in that capacity
for three years and may be reappointed any number of times.
Estimated Annual Operating Costs in Dollars and Staff Years
for Such Committee:
It is anticipated that expenditures for the
Committee could be up to $260,000 including .5 FTE for a two year period.
Estimated Number and Frequency of Committee Meetings:
It is anticipated the Committee will meet two time during each year.

Two years from the date the charter is filed.
