Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Moderately Effective

In general, a program rated Moderately Effective has set ambitious goals and is well-managed. Moderately Effective programs likely need to improve their efficiency or address other problems in the programs' design or management in order to achieve better results.
  • The program has made progress in meeting long term goals to develop geologic maps for the nation by leveraging resources through grants to states and universities. For example, 53% of the United States has geologic map information available needed by customers/decision makers to make land use and water management decisions.
  • The program has increased the availability and consistency of geologic maps through development of data collection and management standards and through training and information exchange tools.
  • Program reviews have not been adequate. While the program employs various methods for reviews, the primary organization conducting reviews was not independent. In addition, the scope of reviews was not sufficient to evaluate all program activities.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Explore future technologies for geologic mapping.
