GovBenefits.gov (formerly Eligibility Assistance Online)
|
DOL |
SSA, VA, HUD, USDA, STATE/INS, HHS, FEMA, DOE, and ED |
- GovBenefits.gov provides citizens with access to information on
all government benefit programs and services through a common Internet Web
site. By answering basic questions about such items as income, marital or
employment status, and family size, citizens are guided to a list of the
benefits they may be eligible to receive. Program descriptions and contact
information are provided for each benefit program.
- The initial release (released in April 2002) features an
easy-to-use online screening tool to help individuals or caseworkers determine
eligibility for a range of government programs. Benefit programs are regularly
added to the more than 100 programs already covered.
- The long-term vision for the site is to enable individuals to
actually apply for benefits online through a streamlined application
process.
- The initiative is reducing the amount of time individuals must
spend trying to identify and access relevant information about government
benefit programs.
