Juvenile Justice Programs

The Juvenile Justice Programs provide assistance to help States/localities prevent and respond to juvenile delinquency and crime. Funds are provided for formula grant and demonstration programs, research and evaluation, and training and technical assistance.

  • The programs have developed a number of resources, including an online registry of effective programs, for states and localities to promote the implementation of effective practices and program models.
  • While additional efforts are needed to make program performance data transparent and available to the public, the programs still compare favorably with other programs focusing on juveniles, delinquency, and crime.
  • Budget requests for the programs do not adequately link resources to expected results.

  • Making Juvenile Justice Programs' performance results available to the public through program publications and the internet.
  • Including performance information in budget submissions to better link resources requested to program performance goals.
  • Developing a comprehensive evaluation plan for the Juvenile Justice Programs to obtain better information on the programs' impacts.
