Disaster Recovery Aid Tops $4 Million; Flood Disaster-Recovery Assistance Weekly Update

Moorhead, MN -- State, federal, local and voluntary agencies are working together to help Minnesota residents affected by recent floods. Fourteen counties are now included in the June 14 Presidential Disaster Declaration that began with Roseau.
The following counties are eligible for individual assistance and public assistance: Kittson, Roseau, Marshall, Lake of the Woods, Koochiching, Red Lake, Norman, Mahnomen, Clearwater and Becker. These counties are eligible for public assistance only: Polk, Pennington, Beltrami and Clay.
Recovery services summary at close of business Friday, July 5, 2002:
- 2,484 total applications have been received through the FEMA toll free number (800) 621-FEMA, (TDD - 800-462-7585).
- Ninety-three percent of inspections issued (1878 of 1944) have been completed.
- The city building inspector has met all current requests for structural inspections in Roseau, with assistance from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
- $2,810,422 in disaster housing assistance checks have been disbursed.
- $327,630 from the Individual and Family Grant program has been approved and $230,019 has been disbursed in 94 checks.
- $1,102,300 has been approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
- 107 applicants have leased travel trailers for temporary housing in Roseau County.
- 7 Disaster Unemployment claims have been filed. The DUA may provide weekly benefit payments to those out of work due to the disaster, including self-employed persons, farm workers, farm and ranch owners, and others not covered by regular unemployment programs
- Free legal services are available for those affected by the disaster and in need of services such as replacing legal documents, transferring titles, contracting problems, will probates, insurance problems, and certain landlord related problems. - 1071 people have visited the disaster recovery centers located in Roseau, Norman and Mahnomen Counties.
- 2 new disaster recovery centers will be open Tuesday, July 9 through Saturday July 13 in Baudette and International Falls. People affected by the flood may go to the DRC for assistance with paperwork and to have registration questions answered.
- 19,911 meals have been served by the American Red Cross.
- 2,475 meals have been served by the Salvation Army in Roseau and Mahnomen Counties.
