INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- State, federal, local and voluntary agencies continue to provide disaster assistance to individuals and businesses that suffered damage from the May 25 through June 25 storms.
Friday, July 23 Disaster Assistance Update
- 68 counties are designated for disaster recovery assistance to individuals.
- 18 counties are designated for disaster recovery assistance for government entities.
- 4,058 individuals have called the FEMA toll-free registration number 800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY: 00-462-7585 to apply for assistance. The deadline for application is August 2.
- $3,856,202 has been approved through the Individuals and Households Program. Of that, $3,852,031 has been disbursed to victims.
- $5,452,000 in loans has been approved by the Small Business Administration (SBA) for homeowners and businesses. The SBA has sent out 3,037 loan application packets. Applications must be returned to the SBA by the August 2 deadline.
- 1,399 people have visited the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) and SBA workshops.
- A DRC remains open in Marengo. The Lake county DRC will close Saturday, July 24 and relocate to a site to be announced in Gary next week.
- 2,760 home inspections have been requested. The five inspectors in the field have completed 93 percent or 2,572 of home inspections.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
