EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Federal and state disaster officials announced a change in location of the Dearborn Heights Disaster Recovery Center as of today, Wednesday, July 14.

The center is now located at the Fire Headquarters in the City of Dearborn Heights Building at 1999 N. Beech Daly and will continue to operate from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday until further notice.

Homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered damage or loss in the severe weather of May 20-24 can call FEMA’s toll-free number to begin the assistance application process. After having applied, they may call this same number or visit a Disaster Recovery Center to get answers to any assistance-related questions or to check on the status of their applications.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
