New Hours For FEMA Registration Phone Lines

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Federal and state disaster officials announced a change in hours of operation for the toll-free FEMA registration number – 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for speech and hearing impaired.
New FEMA phone line hours will be Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. These phone lines also serve as the FEMA Helpline.
Homeowners, renters and business owners in disaster-declared counties who suffered damage or loss in the severe weather of May 20-24 can call FEMA’s toll-free number to begin the assistance application process. They may also call this same number, after having applied, to get answers to any assistance-related questions or to check on the status of their applications.
The 19 counties included in the Presidential disaster declaration of June 30 are: Barry, Berrien, Cass, Genesee, Gladwin, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Kent, Livingston, Macomb, Mecosta, Oakland, Ottawa, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clair, St. Joseph and Wayne.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
