INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Disaster assistance from state, federal, local and voluntary agencies is being provided to individuals and businesses that suffered damage during the May 27th through June 25th storms.
- 68 counties are designated for disaster recovery assistance to individuals.
- 3,440 individuals have called the FEMA toll-free registration number 800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY: 800-462-7585. Individuals and business owners may call the toll-free number to register for disaster related state and federal assistance.
- $3,294,166 has been approved through the Individuals and Households Program. Of that, $3,270,653 has been disbursed to victims. The first checks for housing assistance were issued four days after the June 3rd presidential declaration.
- $2,902,200 in loans has been approved by the Small Business Administration (SBA) for homeowners and businesses. The SBA has sent out 2,647 loan application packets.
- 1,258 people have visited the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) and SBA workshops.
DRCs remain open in Marengo, Lafayette, Indianapolis, and Ft. Wayne. An SBA workshop remains open in Jeffersonville.
- 2,250 home inspections have been requested. The seven inspectors in the field have completed 96% or 2,159 of those home inspections.
- Fountain county was recently included for Public Assistance (PA). An estimated 90 eligible applicants have been identified in the 17 designated PA counties.
- Voluntary agencies and faith-based communities have established long-term recovery committees in Marion and Crawford Counties.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
