INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Disaster assistance from state, federal, local and voluntary agencies is being provided to individuals and businesses that suffered damage from the recent storms.

Recovery services summary as of 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 2, 2004:

15 additional counties have been designated for individual assistance bringing the total counties to 68. Recently added were Adams, Allen, Dearborn, Decatur, DeKalb, Franklin, Huntington,

16 counties are designated for Public Assistance.
3,177 individuals have called the FEMA toll free registration number 800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY: 800-462-7585. Individuals and business owners should call to

$3,050,584 has been approved through the Individuals and Households Program. Of that, $3,011,615 has been disbursed to victims. The first checks for housing assistance were issued four

$2,037,100 in loans has been approved, for homeowners and businesses, by the Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA has sent out 2,062 loan application packets.
1,132 people have visited the seven Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) and one SBA workshop.
2,040 home inspections have been requested. The ten inspectors in the field have completed 97% (or 1,977) of those home inspections.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
