Learn how to minimize future disaster damage this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Residents who suffered damaged as a result of the tornadoes and flooding that began May 27th, and want to rebuild in a way that reduces future losses from similar storms, have an opportunity to receive some first hand information. Mitigation representatives with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be available this Friday, Saturday and Sunday to answer questions about specific mitigation measures.

Mitigation Community Education and Outreach personnel will be available Friday, June 25 through Sunday, June 27 at the following location and times:

Miller Hardware & Garden Center
206 West Walnut Street
Salem, IN

Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26
from 10a.m. to 5p.m.

Sunday, June 27 from noon to 3p.m.

Those who stop by the display at the store can learn about damage reduction and prevention including how to rebuild with materials less susceptible to water damage, wind resistant reinforcement construction and safe rooms.

Stop by with questions about minimizing or eliminating future damage from tornadoes and/or floods and learn proper techniques for protecting against wind damage.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
