Disaster Recovery Center Will Open In Lake County

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Lake County for residents who suffered damages from severe storms and flooding that occurred in the area from August 15-27, 2007.
The Disaster Recovery Center will open on Friday, December 7, located at 839 Broadway, Gary, IN. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time), Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday until further notice.
DRC staff can answer questions about registration for disaster assistance and hazard mitigation, help with disaster loan applications and provide information and contacts for other programs. Additional DRC openings in Lake County are expected to be announced next week.
Homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the severe storms and flooding are encouraged to register for assistance by calling the telephone registration line, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) which is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (local time) seven days a week. Residents are encouraged to register prior to visiting a DRC.
For speech- or hearing-impaired applicants, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Applicants also may register on-line at www.fema.gov. Applicants are urged to register early in order to receive aid as quickly as possible.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
