FINDLAY, Ohio -- The deadline to register with FEMA and to submit a SBA loan application is October 26 - only three weeks away.

"Since the Aug. 26 disaster declaration, more than eight thousand people in eight designated counties have registered for assistance," said Federal Coordinating Officer Jesse Munoz of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). "There's still time for everyone who had damage to register for assistance. But don't put it off any longer."

Disaster assistance, in the form of grants from the federal government and the State of Ohio, and long-term, low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) could be available for any resident or business owner who sustained damages during the severe storms and flooding Aug. 20-28 in northwest Ohio.

The counties are Allen, Crawford, Hancock, Hardin, Putnam, Richland, Seneca, and Wyandot.

To date:

FEMA's temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
