FINDLAY, Ohio -- Grants and loans to help fund recovery efforts after the Aug. 20-28 storms and floods in northwest Ohio now total more than $25 million, state and federal emergency officials announced today.

Nearly $13.2 million in federal funds has been approved to help 4,495 households pay for short-term emergency housing and basic repairs to help make primary residences livable again.

Another $2.6 million in state and federal grants has been distributed or is on its way to 1,745 households for medical and dental expenses, and to help replace essential appliances and furniture.

The figures were released today by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA).

As Ohioans move ahead with disaster recovery, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved 239 applications for a total of $9.5 million in long-term, low-interest loans for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes.

"Getting this money into the hands of people who are working hard to rebuild their homes, their businesses and their lives is what we're all about," said Federal Coordinating Officer Jesse Munoz of FEMA. "And getting this much cash into local circulation is bound to give a financial boost to communities at a time they need it most."

An important reminder: The deadline to register for assistance and to complete the SBA loan application form is less than a month away – Oct. 26.

To register, or to get information about an existing registration, call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585, or go online at www.fema.gov.

It's important for those who have received one to complete and send in an SBA loan application packet – even if you don't want a loan. You must complete that application to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
