FEMA Mitigation Outreach Teams At Findlay Lowe's To Show How To Make Homes Safer, Dryer

FINDLAY, Ohio -- A mitigation outreach team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will set up shop in the Findlay Lowe's store starting Wednesday, showing people how to make their homes safer, and possibly reduce their insurance premiums.
The Lowe's store is located at 1077 Bright Road, at Tiffin Avenue. Mitigation specialists will be there from Friday, Sept. 28 through Wednesday, Oct. 3. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The outreach team will not be there Monday, Oct. 1.
The teams have been working at various home building supply stores and county fairs in the eight-county disaster area since late August. Since then, more than 2,700 people have stopped by to learn about a wide range of mitigation measures such as relocating electric switchboxes and outlets; elevating furnaces, water heaters and appliances, and installing special valves to prevent sewer backups.
There's do-it-yourself advice, and consumer information about hiring responsible professionals. National Flood Insurance Program information also is available, including guidelines on how mitigation measures could lower your flood insurance premiums.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
