Jefferson and Iowa Counties Getting Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers (MDRC) will open to serve Iowa and Jefferson counties recently added to the August 26 disaster declaration. These mobile centers will assist those who suffered loss from the severe storms and flooding that occurred August 18-31, according to disaster recovery officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM).

Disaster Recovery Centers offer a single location where many types of recovery information are available and people are able to talk face-to-face with disaster recovery specialists. Visitors can receive help filling out disaster loan applications from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for homeowners, renters and businesses, or check on the status of disaster assistance applications.

The following Mobile DRCs (MDRC) will be open from noon to 7 p.m. on their first day, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the remaining days:

Through September 9, the DRCs in southwest Wisconsin have served more than 922 residents. DRCs are open 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily unless otherwise noted. DRCs currently open include:

Anyone affected by the flooding is urged to register their damage online anytime at www.fema.gov or by calling toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily. For those with special speech or hearing needs, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. After registering, applicants can check their status either at any DRC or by calling these numbers.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
