Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Travels To Three Illinois Counties

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The state of Illinois and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have deployed a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (MDRC) to serve residents and businesses affected by the severe storms and flooding from Sept. 13 to Oct. 5.

An MDRC is an RV with office resources, computers and satellite uplink capabilities where aid officials can help and inform those affected by the disaster. The advantage of an MDRC is the speed with which it can be placed into service in areas it may be needed.

The MDRC will be making three stops in the next two weeks.

The first stop will be at the Maple Park Fire station in DeKalb County. It will be there from Monday, Oct. 20 through Saturday, Oct. 25th. Daily hours will be 9. a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following address:

The next stop will be at the Coal City Chamber of Commerce in Grundy County for three days, from Monday, Oct. 27 through Wed. Oct. 29. Daily hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following address:

The third stop will be at the Channahon Police Station in Will County from Thursday, Oct. 30 through Saturday, Nov. 1. Daily hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following address:

Before visiting a Disaster Recovery Center, those who sustained losses in the designated counties of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, LaSalle and Will should apply for assistance online at www.fema.gov or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585. The toll-free numbers operate 24 hours, seven days a week until further notice.

Information people can expect to receive at a DRC includes:

When disaster-affected residents visit a DRC they should bring identification, social security numbers, insurance information, proof of address and contact phone numbers in order to help speed up the assistance process.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
