DULUTH, Minn. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Minnesota Division of Emergency Management (DEM) will open a Disaster Recovery Center on Friday, August 6. The center will be located at the address below and will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Monday and longer if necessary.

FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Center
The Hibbing Memorial Building
400 East 23rd Street
Hibbing, MN

The center will be staffed by representatives of FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), state and voluntary agencies who will provide information and answer questions about the assistance available to residents of Cook, Itasca and St. Louis counties who have applied for aid in the aftermath of the Presidential disaster declaration on July 28.

"A variety of federal, state and voluntary agency programs are available for homeowners, renter and business owners affected by the storms and flooding that occurred between July 4 and August 2," said State Coordinating Officer Kevin Leuer. "We urge anyone who suffered storm-related damage or loss to apply for assistance as soon as possible by calling toll-free at 1 800 462-9029 (TTY 1 800 462-7585).

FEMA Coordinating Officer Ron Sherman explained that those who have applied for assistance should then visit the Disaster Recovery Center with questions regarding programs and services available to eligible applicants. Those include disaster housing assistance, low-interest loans for repair, replacement or rebuilding of disaster-damaged property, grants for serious immediate needs resulting from the disaster that cannot be met by other sources and/or technical assistance on strategies to reduce future risk.

Federal and state officials reminded residents of the disaster-declared counties to begin the assistance process immediately with a toll-free call to the FEMA registration line, 1 800 462-9029 (TTY 1 800 462-7585), open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. "The call is fast, efficient and confidential, and its the only way to get the assistance process going," Sherman added.
