Great! But now we know, while the SEC has proposed to ban auditors from doing certain kinds of consulting work, it does not ban all non-audit work. Many accounting experts recognize that only a total ban on non-audit work will ensure the independence of the audit. Otherwise, auditors will be trying their best to please firms with a favorable audit in order to win other business. Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) banned all non-auditing services in the original version of his bill, but eventually relented to leave in some non-auditing services to please accounting interests. We believe that only a total ban on non-audit services will restore the independence of the audit, which is crucial for the health of our economy. Respectfully, Jim and Virginia Wagner 4897 East Walnut Street Westerville, Ohio 43081
