Winter

Snowshoes! History Emphasis: Grade 2

Students will learn about the historical use of snowshoes. After this program they will be able to explain that snowshoes were developed by American Indian tribes, and adopted by people engaged in the fur trade and the settling of North America. This program has a classroom and outdoor component. Program may take place at your school or as a field trip to Voyageurs National Park (15-20 minute classroom program, followed by ½ to 1 hour of snowshoeing).

Fall

Half-Day Trips to Rainy Lake

Fall Field trips are typically offered during September and October for second and third grade students. Field Trips take place at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center and include a number of activities designed to teach students about habitats and animal adaptations. Students will also have the opportunity to join a ranger for a hike on the Oberholtzer Trail to view the fall colors.

A small campsite on Rainy Lake has a food locker, picnic table, tent pad sites, fire ring and a privy.
