After experiencing the natural beauty of the dunes or learning about Swedish-American culture at the Chellberg Farm, you may desire to get involved in supporting the park. You can support the park by:
- volunteering,
- being a park steward
- joining the Friends of Indiana Dunes,
- bringing a friend or school group to the park
- buying a book or souvenir in the Eastern National bookstore
If you have the time and skills you may be able to become a park volunteer by contacting the volunteer coordinator at 219-395-1682. We presently are looking for visitor center assistants, resource management assistants, preservation assistants, and facility and grounds assistants.
While visiting the park, be a park steward by leaving the park in at least as good of condition as when you arrived. Treat the land with respect by picking up litter, staying on marked trails, and throwing away trash in garbage cans. Also respect all wildlife from a safe distance and avoid introducing or transporting non-native species.
Consider joining the Friends of Indiana Dunes. Their mission is to
"enhance and foster understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Indiana Dunes through financial and volunteer support of the state and national park."

Bring a friend, family, or school group to the park to enjoy the beach, forested trails, or dunes. To schedule a ranger-led program for your organized group call (219) 395-1857. Learn more about education programs through the Educational Adventures in the Dunes brochure.
Stop at the Dorothy Buell Memorial Visitor Center to buy a book or souvenir that will remind you of your trip or enhance your knowledge of the dunes. A part of the proceeds from the Eastern National bookstore sales are returned to the park and used to produce park publications.
