News From the Field Study Shows Urban Sprawl Continues to Gobble Up Land

Despite reports to the contrary, urban sprawl grew significantly during the past several decades, according to a new study by researchers at Ohio State University. Results from the study contrast with another well-publicized study released last year, that concluded that the extent of sprawl remained roughly unchanged in the United States between 1976 and 1992.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering.
