Next round of federal stimulus money falls short of requests

Nearly 400 applications totaling $442 million are chasing the next round of federal stimulus spending on transportation in Illinois. Included is the first section of a 38-mile bike trail west of Springfield.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum presented “Ghosts of the Library” for the 22,000th time recently. And even if it were possible to have seen all 22,000 performances, even from just offstage as I did, you still couldn’t figure out how they do it.

Forrest Cravens and his buddy Buddy are fixtures at Hickory Glen, a seniors community at 1700 W. Washington St. in Springfield. Buddy is the only dog in the place. That would make Irma Booker happy.

At the very least, a group of students from Mississippi State University traveling north through the United States will gain an appreciation for the grueling twice-a-year migration undertaken by birds. And these kids won’t even have to flap their arms a single time. They’ll spend the entire 3,461 miles traveling together in a van owned by the school.
