Organization of the Website

The Condition of Education website presents ten comprehensive analyses, each with accompanying charts and tables. A complete list of analyses is shown in the Special Analyses List page.

Each of the five major indicator sections in this site begins with a summary of the general topic areas covered by the indicators. All indicators contain a discussion and one or more charts or tables. In most cases, the indicators also have one or more tables providing more detailed breakouts for the indicator, such as household income, students' race/ethnicity, or parents' education. Standard error tables are also included for applicable indicators. In addition, many indicators have supplemental notes that provide information on the sources of data used, describe how an analysis was conducted, or provide explanations of categories used. A complete list of indicators is shown in the Indicator List page.

The site also contains a Glossary, combining all of the entries from the 2003–2008 editions. The Bibliography supplies the complete citations for all NCES publications cited in the five editions (first listing them alphabetically and then chronologically by NCES number), as well as citations for all other publications mentioned. It also provides an alphabetical listing of the NCES surveys and those of other agencies that were cited in the tables and charts. Many of the citations and surveys that appear in the Bibliography are linked to the NCES website or other sites.
