Employee Volunteers: One of Bayer's more than 1,000 member strong national volunteer corps, Bayer scientist Pat Jacobs conducts experiments with local middle school students on the Bayer campus in Pittsburgh. Bayer has transformed a portion of the 258-acre campus to be used as a Wildlife Habitat Council Corporate Lands for Learning site. The Wildlife Habitat Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the quality of wildlife habitat on corporate, private and public lands, honored Bayer with an international habitat conservation award for its program to enhance campus open spaces.

Educating the Public about Science Literacy: the Making Science Make Sense® (MSMS) public education campaign features the MSMS Experiment Guides for parents and children; the MSMS Audio Series, two-minute sound bite science classes; the C.A.U.S.E. Challenge Film Festival, an environmental documentary film competition for high school students; and, the annual Bayer Facts of Science Education surveys, which gauge public opinion on the state of science education in the United States, as well as public support for reform and recognition of the roles that science and science literacy play in everyday life.
