Interested in Giving Back - Volunteering at the Armed Forces Retirement Home is unlike any other volunteer experience you have ever had. The Residents of the Home are our country's veterans. They provide volunteers with the unique opportunity to give back to the people that have given so much to our nation.

So many ways to help: - Volunteers get involved in all aspects of activities at the Armed Forces Retirement Home. Whether it's lending a scooping hand at an ice cream social, playing a highly competitive game of baseball with the "Over the Eighties" team or teaching a class on yoga or aerobics. Volunteers, work closely with AFRH's dedicated staff, and enhance and improve the quality of life for the Residents of the Home.

Everyone can find a way and time to contribute - Our volunteers are an integral part in our commitment to caring for the physical and emotional well-being of each and every senior. Volunteers come in all ages, shapes and sizes. Whether you are a private citizen, a high school or college student, an activity duty military member or spouse or a civilian organization, your time volunteering at the Armed Forces Retirement Home will have an impact and be rewarding and beneficial to both you and the Residents. As a volunteer, you bring your own special skills and interest to our campuses. The rewards of volunteering are many, but none is as great as the knowledge that you can and do make a positive difference. Whenever you share your time, skills or talents, you are enhancing, directly or indirectly, the lives of the seniors here at the Armed Forces Retirement Homes. We have many volunteer opportunities available in a variety of areas and we can accommodate your schedule. Whatever the day (the weekday or weekend), whatever the hour (morning, afternoon or evening), volunteers are needed. One such group that volunteers at the AFRH is PAL (People Animal Love).

Adopt a Veteran Program at AFRH - We are expanding our “Adopt a Veteran” program to match volunteers with our veterans. While the residents in our assisted living and long term care programs always welcome visitors, our independent living residents are also eager to go to a ball game, visit a museum, attend a concert, go shopping and engage in other activities in the Capital area.

Teaching Computer Classes
Volunteer Instructors do not need to have formal teaching experience but patience and a sense of humor are mandatory. Volunteers are needed for Basic Beginner Computer classes; EBay classes; Genealogical Search classes and Digital Photography classes. Classes are held Monday-Friday for 1 hour in either the morning or afternoon. Volunteers can pick their own day and time.
