Denton eNews - Broadcast E-mail Lists

What is a Broadcast E-mail List?
Like a radio broadcast, an e-mail broadcast is a one-way communication where information is sent via e-mail. Through this online service, you can subscribe and unsubscribe to e-mail lists that can provide you with information you're interested in. Unlike some "listservs" or other e-mail lists, there is no "reply" or "reply to all" feature - no other subscriber to a list will ever see another subscriber's messages or their e-mail addresses.

Subscribers' e-mail addresses and other information will not be sold, traded or given away to any marketing company and all messages will be sent by the City of Denton, not a third-party.

What types of lists are available?
This will vary. You can click on the "Subscribe/Unsubscribe" button on the left to see the lists/groups that are currently available. More may be added in the future.

How does it work?
By clicking on the "Subscribe/Unsubscribe" link to the left, you'll have the opportunity to check a check box to indicate what subscription lists you'd like to subscribe to. You will then fill out a form with your name, e-mail address and other information. After you submit your request, you should receive an automated message within a few minutes, letting you know that your request was successful. The e-mail you'll receive will also have a link that you must click on to confirm your subscription. If you do not confirm your subscription, you will not receive messages sent to that group, even though you requested a subscription. This is to prevent someone from signing up someone else without their permission.

Someone signed me up for this list without my permission - how do I remove myself from the list?
If you receive the e-mail with the confirmation link, but never click on the link to confirm, you should never receive messages sent to the group that your e-mail address was subscribed to.

Oops! I accidentally confirmed the subscription - but I didn't sign up for this. What do I do?
Go to the Subscribe/Unsubscribe page and click on "Manage Subscriptions." Login and un-check the groups you do not want to be signed up to.

I don't know the password - or at least I forgot what it was. Now what?
After you go to the Subscribe/Unsubscribe page, click on "Manage Subscriptions," and then click on "Password Help." Enter your e-mail address and your password will be e-mailed to you.

Ok, I'm signed up and confirmed - but I'm not getting any messages!
Each e-mail list has a different schedule. Some lists, such as the Employment Opportunity List, are sent weekly, but others, such as Sex Offender notification, are sent "as needed."

If you are signed up for a weekly list and have not received any messages after a week, this could be due to issues with your e-mail account. For example, AOL users (and others) have the ability to choose a preference to only receive e-mail from those addresses they have in their electronic address book. If those users do not have the address webmaster@cityofdenton.com as an excepted e-mail address, the message will bounce back to our servers as undeliverable to those users.

Some Web-based e-mail accounts such as Yahoo! and Hotmail may have issues with PDF attachments that may prevent you from receiving the message because they flag it as bulk mail or the message may be received, but the attachments garbled.

If you have subscribed and confirmed your subscription online and are still having problems receiving the messages, please contact the Webmaster at webmaster@cityofdenton.com.
