DENVER – The Bureau of Land Management’s Royal Gorge Field Office in Canon City is recipient of the first annual BLM Colorado Unit Safety Award.

The award recognizes Field Manager Roy Masinton, the Royal Gorge/San Carlos Ranger District Safety Committee, and the overall exceptional work on safety of the Royal Gorge Field Office employees. “The Royal Gorge Field Office has truly set the standard for safety programs and awareness for the BLM in Colorado,” said Sally Wisely, BLM Colorado State Director.

Roy Masinton, BLM Royal Gorge Field Manager, was cited for his leadership and exceptional service and accomplishments in safety. He was especially singled out for creating outstanding work conditions through direct involvement in day-to-day operations and his sincere and caring attitude toward his staff and the public.

In addition, the Royal Gorge/San Carlos Ranger District Safety Committee was acknowledged  by Wisely for its many safety awareness programs and strong team commitment and leadership, which developed concepts that are utilized throughout BLM Colorado.

The entire Royal Gorge Field Office was commended for its completion of a safe relocation earlier this year when the office moved to new quarters in Canon City..

Wisely presented the award at a ceremony at the BLM offices in Canon City on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.
