Succeeding with a small business takes courage, hard work and perseverance. At the Temple Small Business Development Center (SBDC) we understand small businesses and the men and women behind them. The Center is designed to guide you as a small business owner and aspiring entrepreneur, onto the path to success.

Who We Are

We are an outreach center of the Fox School of Business and Management at Temple University. The Temple SBDC offers a variety of services listed below:

Consulting and Coaching: If you are a start-up or an existing business you have the opportunity to expand your knowledge with free one-on-one consulting with a Temple SBDC consultant.

Affordable Hands-On Training: Our highly effective seminars are designed to help entrepreneurs at every stage of business growth. The Entrepreneurial Success Workshop Series(ESWS)  benefits start-up to mature businesses. This interactive 10-week series will help you transform your business into a structured business plan.

Our award winning Construction Management Certificate Series is a nine-month, Saturday workshop series designed to provide business management tools to contractors. This series is offered for both beginnning and advanced contractors.

We also offer periodic training events on topics such as: financial management, effective marketing strategies, and retail success.

Cutting Edge Market Research: We help you find the vital information about your industry and customers you need to make important decisions. The consultants at the Temple SBDC have a wide variety of research tools available at our fingertips. In addition to the rapidly expanding and powerful Internet, we have access to many computer databases to help you identify target markets and suppliers.

Advertising & Design: The SBDC offers creative advertising to clients. The Creative Advertising Department offers conceptual graphic design and copywriting for marketing materials which include letterhead, business cards, flyers , print ads, brochures, radio ads, logos and marketing folders. Nominal fees are charged to cover materials cost. Advertising design and consulting services are free of charge.

Legal Advice: Receive free legal consulting on business issues from our Legal Clinic. Operating through a co-operative effort with the Temple University Beasley School of Law, you may receive assistance from third-year law students supervised by a practicing Attorney/Instructor.

Government Marketing: Each year, government agencies - Federal, State and City, purchase hundreds of millions of dollars of goods and services. The SBDC Government Procurement Assistance Program identifies these lucrative markets and helps you with the complex bidding process.

Providing a Virtual Home for Your Business: The Temple University Virtual Business Development Incubator houses start-up businesses in a setting that encourages entrepreneurship. Fledgling enterprises receive practical consulting and training services including meeting areas, telephones, reception, fax, computer technology and desk top publishing.

Funding Support

Funding support and resources are provided by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the Department of Community & Economic Development; through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration; and in part through support from Temple University. All services are extended to the public on a non-discriminatory basis. Special arrangements for persons with disabilities can be made by calling 215-204-7282.
