NEW ORLEANS MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

MICHAEL WRIGHT, 53, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was arrested for crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

WRIGHT was arrested March 26, 2009 by Special Agents of the U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), on a criminal complaint charging receipt of child pornography in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252(a)(2). On March 26, 2009, Special Agents from ICE’s cybercrimes squad executed a federal search warrant at WRIGHT’s uptown residence during which time they found numerous images of child pornography.

Today WRIGHT was brought before United States Magistrate Judge Louis Moore, Jr. who remanded WRIGHT to the custody of the U. S. Marshal’s Service. If convicted, WRIGHT faces a mandatory minimum of five (5) years imprisonment and a maximum penalty of twenty (20) years, followed by up to a lifetime term of supervised release, a $250,000.00 fine and WRIGHT can be required to register as a sex offender.

The prosecution of this case is being handled by Project Safe Childhood Coordinator, Assistant U. S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba.
