KENNER MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSION OF FIREARMS STOLEN FROM GUN SHOW

BYRON CHAPLAIN, age 46, a resident of Kenner, Louisiana, pled guilty today in federal court to two counts of possessing stolen firearms before
U. S. District Judge Lance M. Africk, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the second superseding bill of information, on or about October 25, 2008, CHAPLAIN was found to be in possession of a Kimber Model Grand Raptor II, .45 caliber pistol which was reported stolen from a Kenner gun show. He was also in possession of a Winchester Model 100, .308 caliber rifle, which had been reported stolen from St. Tammany Parish.

CHAPLAIN faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a maximum fine of the greater of $250,000 or twice the gross loss to any victim or twice the gross gain to the defendant, and up to three (3) years of supervised release following any term of incarceration for each count. Sentencing is scheduled for June 18, 2009 before Judge Africk.

The case was investigated by the Kenner Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crimes Unit.
