NHEERL Diversity

NHEERL Diversity

The mission of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is to protect human health and safeguard the natural environment. To accomplish this, EPA establishes and enforces regulations and conducts research that provides the scientific foundation for these regulations. The Office of Research and Development's (ORD) National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL) is the Agency's focal point for scientific research on the effects of contaminants and environmental stressors on human health and ecosystem integrity.

Diversity at NHEERL

ORD offers a workplace where the contributions of people of varied heritage and traditions are respected and valued. In order to ensure this atmosphere, NHEERL launched its Diversity Action Plan and Diversity Steering Group (DSG) in 1999. The DSG is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the plan and making recommendations to better identify and recruit candidates that would achieve diversity goals. Members of the DSG also focus their efforts on the development of strategies for encouraging an inclusive, diverse workforce and an equitable work environment.

NHEERL's vision is to be one of the premier scientific research organizations in the world. Encouraging diversity at NHEERL not only makes good cultural sense, it makes good business sense. The Laboratory must have a diverse array of talents and perspectives to achieve its and the Agency's goals. We encourage you to join us in these efforts.
