DRUG TRAFFICKING DEFENDANT SENTENCED TO LIFE, PLUS FIVE YEARS

R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration, Miami Division, Hugo Barrera, Special Agent in Charge, Bureau of Alcohol, Firearm, Tobacco and Explosives, and Al Lamberti, Sheriff, Broward County Sheriff’s Office, announced the February 17, 2009 sentence of defendant Jacques Hernes Telcy. U.S. District Judge William P. Dimitrouleas sentenced Telcy, a career offender, to life plus five years’ imprisonment on drug trafficking charges. More specifically, Telcy was sentenced to life imprisonment for distributing crack cocaine; two hundred and thirty-five months’ imprisonment for distributing cocaine hydrochloride and for being a felon in possession, this sentence to run concurrent with the life sentence; and five years’ imprisonment for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, to run consecutive to the life sentence.

On December 8, 2008, a jury found defendant Telcy guilty on charges of distribution of cocaine hydrochloride and cocaine base (“crack cocaine”), being a felon in possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Telcy was arrested as part of a Drug Enforcement Administration Miami Division Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) operation, working jointly with detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office. This operation focused on cracking down on drug suppliers and distributors in Broward County.

U.S. Attorney Acosta commended the dedicated efforts of DEA, ATF and BSO on this matter. This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Waugh-Farretta.
