U.S. MARSHAL-LED EFFORTS RESULT IN DOZENS OF LOCAL FUGITIVE ARRESTS

R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and Christina Pharo, United States Marshal, announce today that, following a two-year tradition of success in its national efforts, the U.S. Marshals Service in the Southern District of Florida conducted another successful Operation FALCON (Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally). On a national level, Operation FALCON, the U.S. Marshal-led multi-city fugitive roundup effort, resulted in the arrests of 5,571 fugitives and cleared 6,805 warrants. More than 400 of these fugitives were arrested in the Southern District of Florida.
In South Florida, Operation FALCON 2007 combined the collective resources of more than thirty (30) federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to capture fugitives, including sexual predators, sex offenders, violent criminals, and other felony offenders. Over the course of the six-day operation, which ran from August 26 through September 1, 2007, Deputy U.S. Marshals teamed up with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners throughout South Florida to arrest 435 fugitives - including 40 sex offenders - and cleared 505 warrants. During the course of these arrests, several firearms were also recovered.
United States Attorney Acosta stated, " Locally, the success of Operation Falcon-2007 is a reflection of the unparalleled cooperative relationship that exists between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in the Southern District of Florida. Operation FALCON is a worthy endeavor that has effectively made our streets and our children safer by removing violent fugitives from our streets."
"The success of this operation clearly demonstrates how efficient law enforcement can be when we combine our resources towards a common goal," said U.S. Marshal Christina Pharo of the Southern District of Florida. "Operation FALCON continues to prove that multiple agencies can work well as a team, bringing some of the worse criminal offenders to justice. The result is a safer community for everyone, especially our children" said Marshal Pharo.
More than 30 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies participated in Operation FALCON - South Florida, working in numerous arrest teams throughout the six-day operational period. Each participating local officer was sworn in as a Special Deputy U.S. Marshal prior to the start of the Operation. This special authority empowered the newly designated deputies to cross traditional jurisdictional lines to locate and arrest targeted fugitives throughout the week.
Agencies participating in Operation FALCON - South Florida included the United States Attorney's Office, United States Marshals Service, Department of Homeland Security (DHS)- Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), DHS-U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP), D.H.S.-Immigration & Customs Enforcement's Office of Detention and Removal, Department of Justice-Office of Inspector General, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development- Office of Inspector General, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), U.S. Department of State-Division of Diplomatic Security, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs-Office of Inspector General, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Department of Corrections-Division of Probation and Parole, Bal Harbour Police Department, Broward County Sheriff's Office, Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Fort Pierce Police Department, Hallandale Police Department, City of Hialeah Police Department, Indian River County Sheriff's Office, Lauderhill Police Department, Martin County Sheriff's Office, Miami Beach Police Department, Miami-Dade County Police Department, City of Miami Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Port St. Lucie Police Department, St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, Sunrise Police Department, West Palm Beach Police Department, and Key West Police Department.
Since its inception in 2005, Operation FALCON has resulted in more than 30,000 arrests and cleared over 38,000 warrants nationwide. It continues to be the largest and most successful fugitive apprehension effort in U.S. Marshals history.
