Health Factors
    NIOSH Immediately Dangerous To Life or Health Concentration (IDLH): 2,500 mg/m3

    Potential symptoms: Irritation of eyes, skin, respiratory system; numbness of mucous membrane; nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain; muscle tremors, incoordination, clonic convulsions; stupor; hypoglycemia; headache; confusion; cough; labored breathing; pulmonary edema (may be delayed); eye damage (upon direct eye contact); severe rash (with repeated skin contact); INGES ACUTE: Abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea; convulsions.

    Health Effects: Cumulative systemic toxicity (HE3); Irritation-Eye, Nose, Throat, Skin---Mild (HE16)Suspect dopaminergic neurotoxin---parkinsonism (HE7).

    Affected organs: Eyes, skin, respiratory system, CNS

    Note: Rotenone has been used to produce an animal model of Parkinson's disease due to its ability to cause specific dopaminergic neurotoxicity after parenteral administration. It remains to be determined whether occupational exposure to rotenone increases the risk of parkinsonism.
