MANHATTAN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD PORN CHARGE

TOPEKA, KAN. – Michael P. McClelland, 25, Manhattan, Kan., pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of possession of child pornography.

In his plea, he admitted that he was a Yahoo account user called “monkeyman-aka-mike” who was the subject of an investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement that began in December 2005. Investigators who examined McClelland’s email found images of child pornography including children under the age of 12. The images were contained in folders with titles including “soft pics,” “hard pics” and “non nude.”

Sentencing is set for Dec. 13. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Kenney prosecuted. This case is being prosecuted under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative. For more information on Project Safe Childhood see www.projectsafechildhood.gov
