FEDERAL DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGE FILED AGAINST TOPEKA WOMAN
TOPEKA, KAN. – Genoveva Barraza Cuellar, 38, Topeka, was charged Friday with one count of possession with intent to distribute a quarter pound of cocaine.
According to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed Friday:
– On Oct. 25, 2007, a member of the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force working undercover arranged to buy a quarter pound of cocaine and to meet the seller at McDonald’s at 1100 S. Kansas in Topeka.
– The seller and Cuellar were arrested when they arrived at the McDonald’s with a quarter pound of cocaine in their possession.
– On Oct. 23, 2007, members of the Kansas Highway Patrol Special Response Team and the DEA Task Force served a search warrant at Cuellar’s residence at 188 N. E. Coachlight Drive in Topeka. They seized 300 grams of cocaine in a bedroom closet.
If convicted, Cuellar faces a penalty of not less than 5 years and not more than 40 years in federal prison and a fine up to $2 million. The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Kansas Highway Patrol Special Response Team, the Topeka Police Department and other members of the DEA Task Force investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Hough is prosecuting.
She is being held pending a detention hearing set for 10 a.m. Oct. 30.
As in any criminal case, a person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The complaint merely contains allegations of criminal conduct.
